What inspired you to join the Critical Care Research Group?

I was looking for a lab dedicated to ECMO research and CCRG seemed to be a perfect fit. They offer unique research possibilities found in a combination of engineering, biology lab, animal models and patients all on one campus.

How did you career benefit from your time at the Critical Care Research Group?

With the research output generated during my time at CCRG I was able to finish my habilitation (German PhD equivalent) and got into a consultant position.

If your goal is to have an academic career in medicine your research experience has to be wide. CCRG provided me with the opportunity to be part of in-vitro experiments, animal models and patient-centred research.

Joining CCRG is always a win-win situation, you bring something and you will get a lot back. I brought clinical knowledge and gained many different aspects of research. And most importantly, I got to know a lot of great people from all over the world who I would call friends and they are still also part of my scientific network.

What advice would you give to someone the Critical Care Research Group?

Be open-minded, be willing to work with dedication and you will gain knowledge in research, networking and managing.
