Meet former CCRG Research Nurse, Noriko

After moving to Australia from Japan more than three years ago, former CCRG Research Nurse Noriko Sato played a key role in organising consumables and maintaining equipment ensuring the smooth running of many preclinical studies. She credits a natural curiosity for her love of research.

“I studied basic science when I was a nursing student. Once I started working as a nurse, I found that I had a lot of ideas and questions about how to improve treatment outcome for critically ill patients, but I didn’t have the resources or support to help answer them. It was around this time that I was presented with the opportunity to come to Australia and join CCRG,” explains Noriko.

She says the opportunity to work with people from many different countries and cultures was one of many highlights of her time with CCRG and in Australia.

“I enjoyed working with so many talented and passionate researchers to explore ways we could improve medicine through research. Everyone brings something unique to the table and different perspectives, which is important in research. We shared many good times but also supported each other through the hard times and the long hours of overnight shifts. This made the comradery stronger, and I know these new friendships will never end, my former colleagues have become some of the most treasured people in my life!

“I would say to anyone looking to begin or progress their medical research career to consider joining CCRG if you want to meet and work with great people from all over the world, in the collective pursuit of excellence in patient care.”

I have gained so much experience in Australia and have been able to progress my career in ways I never could have imagined in Japan.
