Presented by CCRG in partnership with the Australian Centre for Health Services Innovation, Queensland University of Technology (AusHSI, QUT), this one-day course focuses on statistical thinking and not statistical techniques.
The course covers the "why" of good statistical practice rather than the "how", featuring simple study designs and some common mistakes, with a range of practical exercises throughout the day.
What to expect:
The one-day course runs from 9:30am until 3:30pm. Topics covered: statistical thinking, normality, collecting data, randomising, P-values, confidence intervals, causal analysis, plots and tables, outliers and surveys.
Due to the nature of the course content and the delivery format, this course will be offered in person only and will not be available online or as a recording.

There will be breaks throughout the day for networking and refreshments at 10:45am, 12:30pm and 2:30pm

Meet your host, Professor Adrian Barnett
Professor Adrian Barnett is a statistician who has over 28 years of applied experience, specialising in medical statistics, health services research and research funding. Adrian is a founder member of AusHSI, where he has evaluated large and complex changes to the health system. He is a fellow of the Academy of Social Science in Australia, a member of the NHMRC Research Committee, and member of Science and Technology Australia’s policy committee.
Adrian’s current focus is on improving the quality of health and medical research, and to improve how researchers apply and describe their statistical analyses. He is passionate about the application of statistics to health and the use of data analysis to develop cost-effective interventions in our health system. Adrian has worked with clinicians, researchers and policy makers in almost all areas of the health system.
