Abstract: This chapter aims at exploring the use of ketamine for analgesia and sedation in patients undergoing extracorporeal membrane oxygenation (ECMO). Key considerations with the use of analgesic and sedative agents in patients on ECMO are presented, and a description of how their pharmacokinetics (PKs) may be affected is provided. Potential benefits and pitfalls with adjunctive ketamine use and a narrative review of the literature on its utilization in ECMO patients are presented; opportunities and challenges will be discussed.
