CCRG hosts visiting academics from Sweden and the USA.
This month, CCRG welcomed a delegation of visitors from Sweden and the USA to lend their expertise to our ongoing heart transplantation research.
Prof Göran Dellgren is Senior Consultant of Cardiothoracic Surgery, and Director of Heart and Lung Transplantation, and Mechanical Circulatory Support at Sahlgrenska University Hospital, Gothenburg, Sweden. He was joined by colleagues, Dr Maya Landenhed Smith, Cardiothoracic Surgeon and Dr Maria Tholén, Cardiothoracic Anaesthetist.
The visit from our Swedish colleagues coincided with a visit to Brisbane by Dr James (Jim) McCully. Dr McCully is Associate Professor of Surgery, Harvard Medical School and Department of Cardiac Surgery, Boston Children’s Hospital, USA. Dr McCully is a world leading expert in mitochondrial transplant. His research focuses on the development of novel and specific cardioprotective protocols.
Following a Guest Lecture by Dr McCully, we were fortunate to host 45 VIPs for a dinner reception with Dr McCully, Professor Dellgren and his team and executive team from Metro North Health Service and The Common Good, an initiative of The Prince Charles Hospital Foundation.
Dr McCully’s visit to Australia has been supported by Mallinckrodt Pharmaceuticals.
