Abstract: Extracorporeal CO2removal is a rescue therapy for acute respiratory distress syndrome (ARDS) and selected indications like COPD and status asthmaticus. Prior studies have demonstrated its efficacy in reducing mechanical ventilation intensity in ARDS patients, yet without consistent survival benefit. As a result, evidence- based guideline on the use of ECCO2R have not been published and clinical use often limited at the discretion of the critical care physicians.
