Could CRIKEY 2027 change the trajectory of your research career?
Early and mid-career researchers are invited to join 90 of the world's leading critical care researchers, clinicians, engineers and innovators for four days of ideas, debate and collaboration in Queensland, Australia.
For 2027, we are also offering a limited number of $2,500 AUD travel stipends for exceptional early- and mid-career researchers to attend the invitation-only event.

Founded and produced by the Critical Care Research Group (CCRG), CRIKEY is a biennial invitation-only think tank for robust conversations that challenge our understanding of critical care medicine and build collaborations that have the potential to change practice and improve outcomes globally.
The CRIKEY Organising Committee is delighted to offer a select number of early- and mid-career researchers (EMCRs) a stipend to support their attendance at the 2027 Summit, to be held in Queensland, Australia from 23 to 26 February.
EMCR Stipends, valued at $2,500 AUD, will be awarded via a competitive application process, whereby applicants will be assessed by the CRIKEY International Advisory Committee and Organising Committee on their research career achievements to date and the possibility of potential future collaborations.
How to apply
Applicants are required to submit their CV, including recent publications, and a video message responding to three questions:
What is the greatest challenge for EMCRs in the field of critical care?
What is your greatest hope for critical care research?
How will your career or current research benefit from attending CRIKEY 2027?
Your video can be recorded via Zoom or other video conferencing programme, or your mobile phone and should be no longer than 2 minutes duration.
A letter of recommendation from a supervisor or senior research mentor is optional but encouraged.

Founded and produced by the Critical Care Research Group (CCRG), CRIKEY is a biennial invitation-only think tank for robust conversations that challenge our understanding of critical care medicine and build collaborations that have the potential to change practice and improve outcomes globally.
Across an ambitious multi-city programme, CRIKEY brings together thought leaders in critical care, emerging researchers, engineers, clinicians, industry partners and patients for four days of tours, talks, scientific presentations, research debates and unique networking opportunities designed to catalyse new perspectives.

How many people are invited to CRIKEY?
A maximum of 90 delegates are invited to participate in the Summit.
What costs are covered?
All in-country expenses will be covered. You only need to cover the costs of your flights (and relevant travel insurances and visa application fees if necessary) and we will cover the rest, including:
Up to four (4) nights’ accommodation
Summit registration, including all sessions and meals
Select transfers and activities
We also invite you to apply for a CRIKEY EMCR Stipend, valued at $2,500 AUD, to support your travel to Australia. Please note - this competition is open by invitation only and details are not to be shared with any other party.
Do you need a visa to visit Australia?
Yes - You can apply for a Visitor/Tourism visa to attend business activities, such as conferences. For more information, please visit The Department of Home Affairs.
What is the Critical Care Research Group (CCRG)?
CRIKEY is produced by the Critical Care Research Group (CCRG), one of Australia’s largest multidisciplinary research groups. CCRG brings together clinicians, engineers and scientists to address some of the most complex challenges facing critically ill patients.
With an internationally recognised research programme spanning extracorporeal life support (ECMO), mechanical circulatory support, organ preservation, critical care innovation and translational medicine, CCRG is committed to turning high-quality research into realities that improve healthcare outcomes globally.

Eligibility
The competition is open to early- and mid-career researchers who meet the following criteria:
Must be an active researcher with a focus on critical care.
Must be in the early stages of their research career as determined by the CRIKEY Organising Committee, typically within the first eight years of academic or other research-related employment, following completion of postgraduate academic research training.
Linked to clinical duties in a relevant healthcare setting (e.g., hospital, clinical research unit).
Employees, contractors and affiliates of the conference organisers are not eligible to apply.
Selection Criteria
Applications will be assessed based on the following criteria:
Strength of research career achievements to date: The applicant’s research experience, including publications, grants, or other significant achievements.
Perceived benefit and impact of attending CRIKEY: Does the applicant’s career goals and research focus area align with the guiding themes of CRIKEY? How will attending the Summit positively impact their career?
Strength of potential collaborations: The applicant’s research demonstrates opportunities for future collaborations within the critical care research community.
Egalitarian ethos: At CRIKEY, all attendees are expected to uphold the egalitarian ethos of the Summit and participate unreservedly. Does the applicant appear to be willing to openly engage with peers at the Summit?
The decision of the competition is at the discretion of the CRIKEY Organising Committee, chaired by Professor John Fraser AO, and will be final. No further discussion or correspondence will be entered into regarding the selection process.
